Introduction to PowerPoint (MS2013 – but works with 2016)

This lesson is an introduction to PowerPoint 2013 for purposes of having students prepare a PowerPoint presentation about themselves (see last two pages of this lesson).

The lesson is set up to teach students most of the functions they will need by creating two practice slides about a Vacation to Tahoe.  There are both written directions and screen/slide shots of the steps to assist students who experience difficulty reading the instructions to be able to visually view the steps by examining the screen shots provided.

The lesson is ideally processed in a computer lab with the instructor reading the directions and students following along at their computer.  Having a couple of assistants, or students who are more familiar with PowerPoint, to assist you is helpful as the areas of difficulty are quite diverse among the students and this keeps the lesson moving forward and lessens wait time.  I generally take two class periods of 1.5 hours each to go through the practice slides.

The final project entails students then telling us a bit about themselves, where they are from, their family, career goals, and the related job duties as well as teaching students to insert a hyperlink of the Yuba College catalog for their reference later on as well as to the program requirements.  See the rubric at the end for students to complete as a means of outlining their presentation.

You may want to run through this yourself to familiarize yourself with the lesson as it will run smoother if you know where these functions are listed.   The entire lesson is below (it’s long).
