Classmate Bingo with mixed verb tenses

<<Classmate Bingo with mixed verb tense >>

I use this lesson towards the end of the semester in an intermediate integrated skills class (although I did it in an advanced class and they found it a good review at the start of the semester). First we started by labeling the verb tenses in the boxes, and then students have to write their own questions using the appropriate tense (numbered boxes to numbered lines) on the back. The last part is for talking practice with students asking classmates the questions they wrote. No repeating names and no writing names if they said ‘no’ to a questions (even with the annotations students might add).

You can adapt how many boxes to use, or do it like actual bingo (4 or 5 in a row) depending on class size.

Between steps is also a good chance to review verb tenses as needed, or talk about when to use which (e.g. when it’s present continous vs. future tense with BE + going to).

To support students I tend to circulate while they’re writing questions and help make corrections. Depending on time, I have also just had us create the questions as a class (sometimes walking through different ways to write a questions too).
