Level 1 Writing about Pictures Activity

Recently, I have developed a new strategy for level 1 students to write about a picture. The students are asked to separate their ideas into two paragraphs. The first paragraph is a description of the people in the picture (who is it, where are they from, what do they do for a living). The second paragraph is about what is happening in the picture at the moment. The attachments below have additional questions for students to think about.

In this activity, students will sort sentences into paragraphs. They will move the sentences to be in the first paragraph or the second. Teacher will be required to cut the lines out and shuffle the different sentences.

Directions:

1. I will ask students to examine the picture (not necessary, but helpful for them to see what the paragraphs were about).

2. Students form small groups or work alone to sort the paragraphs.

3. Students sort paragraphs and teacher examines.

4. Reveal the order and explain what could be in different order.
