<<would rather talking chart>> I used this in ESL 235/535: Integrated skills level 3. The week before we had gone over World English 2 “Unit 12” with its introduction to using ‘would rather’ and using comparisons. I used this talking practice as part of a review day about halfway through the semester. We reviewed how and when we use ‘would rather (not)’ and then students moved around to talk with 10 classmates and write complete sentence […]

World English 2 Unit 12 reading handout
<<WE2 un12 Starting a new tradition>> I used this about halfway through a semester in ESL 235/535: level 3 integrated skills. We had already done some practice with reading and finding main ideas in readings (what is a main idea vs supporting detail). I made a handout of the reading from World English 2 “Unit 12” to encourage students to take notes on readings (specifically I modeled highlighting where answers are in the text) and then […]
World English 2 Unit 5 Speaking Assignment
This is a Speaking Assignment, including a rubric, that ties in with the reading in World English 2 Unit 5’s reading about challenges. The students had a week to prepare their presentations. Even though the students only speak for one minute, it does take some time for the students to come to the front and do their presentation, so plan on about 3-5 minutes for each student presentation. >>Speaking Assignment #2<< cwilkinson1
World English 2 Unit 2 Speaking Assignment
This is a Speaking Assignment, including a rubric, that ties in with the reading in World English Unit 2’s reading about Annie Griffiths. The students had a week to find a picture to share and prepare their presentations. Even though the students only speak for one minute, it does take some time for the students to come to the front, find their photograph, and do their presentation, so plan on about 5 minutes for each […]
World English 2 Unit 5 Writing Assignment
This is the writing assignment I used with World English 2 Unit 5. It took most students about 45 minutes to complete in class, including planning. There is a section to order supporting sentences to make a paragraph first, and then students write their own paragraphs using the simple past to tell a narrative about a personal experience that was “interesting, funny, unusual, surprising, or unlucky”. >>Writing Unit #5<< cwilkinson1
World English 2 Unit 2 Writing Assignment
This is the writing assignment I used with World English 2 for a writing assignment. It took most students about 40 minutes to complete this assignment, including a planning stage. The assignment begins with an example paragraph that asks students to identify things the writer “has and has not done,” and then students write their own paragraphs using the present perfect about things they have and have not done yet in their lives. >>Writing Unit […]
World English 2 Unit 1 Writing Assignment and Teacher’s Example
This is the in-class writing assignment I used with Unit 1 of World English 2. I found it took most students around 40 minutes to complete this paragraph, including a planning stage. I also have attached an example writing that I personally wrote for the students as an example. Students write about their favorite food after looking at the example paragraph that I wrote. The emphasis is on using description and simple present tense. >Writing […]
Superlatives Greeting Card Assignment
After learning and practicing superlatives in World English 2, Unit 4: The Body, students complete Part 1 of this assignment in class. Students write a message for a birthday or anniversary card using as many superlatives as possible. The instructor goes around the room and checks their sentences, giving them feedback on their use of superlatives. Students do Part 2 as homework, and submit an actual greeting card. You will get some really creative work! […]
